I recently acquired one of Marc Charisse's locking tarot boxes. From his quick feedback, suggestions and support to the (swiftly shipped) finished product: I'm a more than happy customer.
He offered me many options to choose from for the artwork, both on the outside as on the inside. I opted for a chalked interior with both a gravity and a locking gimmick, and it works like a charm! The box looks downright amazing, it's hard to tell its age, and that is simply perfect. I keep my carnie tarot in it, and the box already invited some of my guests to start a conversation about it - we discussed both the box and the cards inside for quite a while. Entertainment and delight, without even using the many possible effects with this combo.
Marc created a wonderful Thurston box for me a couple of years ago. Inside is an american deck of cards from the early 1900's picked up for a few quid in an antique shop. I sent the deck to Marty Martini over in the states and he turned it into a rising card deck. The combination of antique cards, the box and a story about picking up one of Thurstons original boxes from an auction and discovering a pack of his cards inside works brilliantly. When the cards rise peoples jaws literally drop! I'm looking to get Marc to make me a box for my Cheshire Deck next and know it will be a working piece of art!
