Hello! I searched the cafe for answers but came up with a lot of conflicting information. Thought I'd post here!
My flash cotton arrived wet as expected. I altered my routine and opted not to use. Now months later it appears to be bone dry. Can I simply re-wet it and store? Or has it's shelf life passed? - And really - how long should one be even storing it? And how? If I decide that I want to dispose of it - what is the best way? (not sure I want to light off a big ball of flash cotton in one go.) Thank you!
I forgot to address the "problem" of getting rid of old stocks of flash paper and flash cotton. I built a special magic wand around a butane barbecue lighter stick, the kind that looks like a giant match (but any lighter will work as long as you can just push a button to ignite it). The flame end has a little tube attached to it where I can stuff a pellet of flash paper or flash cotton (or string, etc.). I keep a few pellets in my pockets so I can reload. On a day when I'm bored and want to creep people out for fun (you DO have those days, don't you? Tell me I'm not alone!) I walk around with an egg balanced on the end of my wand (like the scene in "The Illusionist" where the young Eisenheim walks around town creeping people out). Sooner or later the egg falls and breaks, and when it does, I use the wand to make a flash over the broken egg. If I have more eggs, I reload the flash wand as I a balance another egg and start all over again. On a "normal" day, I can use the flash wand in performances and reload it time and again after flashing occurs for whatever reason.
